Apokalupto & ARCHIMEDE T(H)RUST

Apokalupto and Archimede t(h)rust are two wall sculptures created by Anna Tomaszewski, expressing with poetry and sensitivity her reflections on the world, time, and our relationship with matter. Anna Tomaszewski is a French-Polish artist whose work revolves around collecting and transforming fragments—natural or residual—into sculptures and installations that open up alternative imaginaries.

The Apokalupto project, created during a residency at the Fondation Fiminco (Paris) in 2020, explores the idea of the contemporary fossil—that is, the traces our human gestures leave in the environment. Its title, meaning “to reveal” in Greek, sets the intention of the installation: to unveil the imprint of the body and movement within living matter. The works combine ceramics, engraving, and screen printing, creating hybrid objects that feel both archaeological and anticipatory. Through the interplay of performance, sculpture, and image, Apokalupto questions how the present becomes fossilized and how our actions are preserved within the layers of time.

In Archimede t(h)rust, the artist invents a “new cosmogony” made of flows, fragile balances, and states of suspension. The sculptures—crafted from stoneware, blown glass, steel, or melted plastic—evoke water, buoyancy, and the tension between opposing forces, similar to those acting on a submerged body. Inspired by the laws of weightlessness and the aquatic world, this work questions our relationship with natural environments and the metamorphosis of materials, while also alluding to the consequences of climate change through forms that appear both organic and strangely artificial.

Together, these two works reveal Anna Tomaszewski’s artistic approach: a sculpture of perception and experience, where poetic forms, material memory, and ecological fiction intertwine, echoing the powerful mineral presence of the Mont-Blanc massif.
